VHA Headache Centers of Excellence Program

The Headache Centers of Excellence (HCoE) Program was established by the Veterans Health administration (VHA) in 2018 as a response to VA Public Law 115-141 (Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies Appropriation Act, 2018; Division J of the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2018). Since 2008, more than 1.74 million Veterans have received care within VHA for headache. In fiscal year 2021, nearly 420,000 Veterans had at least one appointment with a medical provider in VHA related to headache with more than 25% of the Veterans having their first ever appointment for headache in VHA.

Our work is built upon four pillars of Clinical Care, Education, Research, and Innovation.
