Family and Caregiver Support

Family_caregiver_support

VA's Polytrauma System of Care strongly advocates family involvement throughout the rehabilitation process, and VA strives to ensure that patients and their families receive all necessary support services to enhance the rehabilitation process while minimizing the inherent stress associated with recovery from traumatic brain injury (TBI) and polytrauma.

Support Services and Training and Education

VA offers multiple levels of clinical, social, and logistical support to ensure a smooth transition and continuous care for TBI patients and their families. VA assigns a dedicated case manager to each patient and family at a PRC. These case managers maintain average workload levels of six patients each.
