Welcome to the Minneapolis VA Rehabilitation Evaluation & Neurologic Enhancement for Warriors (RENEW) Program

The Minneapolis VA Health Care System (MVAHCS) Polytrauma Rehabilitation Evaluation & Neurologic Enhancement for Warriors (RENEW) Program is one of five within the IETPs are comprehensive interdisciplinary programs for Veterans and Active Duty Service Members (ADSM) (including, but not limited to Special Operations Forces) with a history of concussion or mild Traumatic Brain Injury (mTBI) that have complex post-deployment rehabilitation needs.

Common treatment focus areas within the 5-week RENEW Program include:

  • Chronic Pain/Headache
  • Mental Health/PTSD/Trauma Related Disorders
  • Orthopedic, Musculoskeletal, and Soft Tissue Concerns
  • Cognitive Difficulties
  • Sleep Disturbances
  • Interpersonal Relationship Difficulties
  • Post-deployment and Community Reintegration Challenges

Common specialized treatments that are offered within the RENEW Program include:

  • Cognitive rehabilitation
  • Pain neuroscience education and therapy
  • Vestibular therapy
  • Community reintegration
  • Evidence-based PTSD and mental health treatment
  • Psychiatry
  • mTBI post-concussive headache treatment
  • Sleep treatment
  • Functional fitness
  • Heart rate variability training
  • Pool therapy, including therapeutic treadmill training
  • Mind-body practices (yoga, mindfulness, tai chi, guided imagery, biofeedback)
  • Pain neuroscience education and therapy
  • Medical/medication management
  • Audiology
  • Whole Health education

MVAHCS is also home to several programs including our inpatient acute Polytrauma Rehabilitation Center (PRC), and is the Polytrauma Network Site (PNS) for post-acute, outpatient rehabilitation services.
